Canada's North

This web page provides access to credible information on substance abuse and addictions research, reports, and resources relevant to Canada's North, including the three Territories and four Inuit regions of Canada. It concentrates on no-cost, accessible information.

Canada’s North, struggles with the impacts of substance abuse and addiction are far-reaching. High rates of unemployment, isolation and for many First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, the inter-generational impacts of colonization, residential schools and abuses have contributed to substance abuse and addictions problems. Some communities have already developed effective responses. There is a common need across Canada's North for the development of holistic, community-based, and culturally inclusive approaches to the identification, prevention and treatment of substance abuse and addictions.
