SystemAction Webinar: Implementing Competencies Research in Your Organization: Learning from Alternatives for Youth

Want to know how you can use the Competencies for Canada's Substance Abuse Workforce? Join Rod Olfert, Knowledge Broker at the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA), as he interviews Sue Kennedy, Executive Director of Alternatives for Youth (AY)—a community-based youth substance abuse treatment agency in Hamilton, Ontario—about how AY has used the Competencies to empower its staff and improve service delivery.

In what promises to be a lively and candid discussion, Sue will share the steps AY took to enhance hiring, performance management and capacity building within her organization, and how the Competencies continue to provide direction for community development in Hamilton. Sue and Rod will be ready to answer your questions.

This could include managers, directors, HR professionals, counsellors, nurses, physicians, social workers, educators, mental health workers and enforcement officials.
Sue Kennedy
Sue Kennedy
is the Executive Director of Alternatives for Youth, a community-based substance abuse treatment agency for youth aged 12–23 in Hamilton, Ontario. Sue has served in the addiction and mental health field for more than 20 years and has focused her work on special populations, including youth with concurrent disorders, youth with acquired brain injuries, and young parents who are substance-involved. Sue is also an advisor on the Connections Knowledge Exchange Network representing agencies serving women with substance abuse issues.

Rod Olfert
Rod Olfert
is a Knowledge Broker at the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse working on the Workforce Development and National Treatment Strategy priorities. Rod is active in the development of SystemAction, Canada's substance use knowledge exchange network. He has worked in the substance abuse and mental health fields since 1983 in various capacities, including addictions and mental health counselling, program development, and education and training. Rod also maintains a small private practice in Ottawa.
